Taco Bell carried a promotion during the 2007 World Series that if someone steals a base, everyone in America gets a free taco. Someone did steal a base during the World Series, so on Tuesday, October 30, anyone can show up to get a free taco from Taco Bell.

Sounds easy, right? You would be sorely mistaken.

Firstly, the giveaway goes from 2 PM to 5 PM. It would make sense to do it then instead of the lunch rush, because after all, there would only be so many tacos to go around. Not a bad deal I suppose. If you show up in line before 5 PM but 5 PM comes and goes while you are standing in line, you still receive a free taco.

As mentioned earlier, there is a limited supply at each restaurant to be given away. I went to Taco Bell for lunch today, which happens to be Tuesday, October 30 (not to get a free taco, mind you, I know it does not begin until 2 PM). I spoke with one of the cashiers at the Airport Road Taco Bell location here in Huntsville, AL. She told me that the local churches had already reserved most of the free tacos. I am assuming to give away to some less-fortunate people, or maybe the tacos will be given to the members of the churches’ congregations.

For starters, how come the churches can come in and reserve the tacos in advance? If I walked in and said “I would like to reserve a taco for myself when you start giving them away,” then I am sure I would be laughed out of the joint. Secondly, right in the fine print of the rules it says the following:

Limit one (1) Free Crunchy Seasoned Beef Taco per person.

So how exactly does it work for a church to reserve a chuck of tacos if it is only one per person? And how is it fair to those that walk in the store just to be told they can’t have a taco because the supply has already been reserved?  I guess as long as the tacos are going to families that are less fortunate, I suppose.  Just something to think about.
