Happy Pi Day
Published March 14th, 2007 in Interesting, Rant/Opinion/RandomToday is March 14th, or 3-14. Get it? Today is known as Pi Day. For those of you who don’t deal with Pi everyday, it is the number which approximates the circumference of a circle whose diameter is exactly 1 unit. Pi pops up so much in my homework and in math that I suppose it does deserve it’s own day.
To celebrate the occasion, the Mathematical Sciences department at UAH served pies during the middle of the day today on the first floor of Madison Hall. If I wouldn’t have had to write a lab report for another class, I would have so been there!
Unfortunately, there can’t be a day for the natural number e, since it is 2.71828…., and no matter how many leap years we have, we won’t ever have a February 71st. Okay, well maybe if we skip ahead 33 days from February 28th to April 2nd we can have e-day. That is right after April Fools Day. Hmm….
