A recent poll conducted by Quinnipiac University has shown that overall, 34 percent of voters rank President George W. Bush as the worst U.S. President of the modern era (after World War II). Following Bush is Richard Nixon with 17 percent and Bill Clinton with 16 percent. Is it really fair to judge Bush as a bad president when he has two more years left in office, and when recent events garner more influence upon the voters?

As many of you may know from my previous blog posts, I have not really been a big fan of President Bush. However, I don’t think it is fair to call him the worst president because his job has not ended yet. Iraq could turn into a stable, strategic ally by the end of his presidency. Gas prices could fall dramatically, and alternative energy sources could grow in popularity and availability. Another natural disaster on the scale of Hurricane Katrina could befall the United States, allowing Bush, state, and local officials to do a better job.

Will all of this happen? Doesn’t look like it. However, I will give him the benefit of the doubt. Judging a sitting president as the worst or best in any time period of history is like writing a critique of a play during the first intermission. There are still two more acts to perform.
