Bands and music without profiteering
Published May 15th, 2006 in Media/TV/Internet, TechnologyA new band, The Fall, has been able to band together a community to accomplish what a commericial operation could never dream of doing: report at all the band’s concerts and upload MP3’s of the performances within a few hours of the concerts. The Fall is a great example of a band that exists for the purpose of creating something and sharing it with its fans. No seeking money, and no record deals. No middlemen. Just a group of individuals that do what they do best.
What would the record industry become if more singers and bands adopted this model? The artists would accept donations from a loyal fanbase while offering free downloads of their songs. Just a thought in the midst of the RIAA clamping down on anyone and everyone for things that they may not have even done.
