As I stay here at my mothers until August when I move into an apartment of my own, I long to be able to have internet access on my computer, which is faster and better for me to use.  I went on eBay and bought a factory-refurbished Linksys Wireless-B Broadband Router for $32.00, including shipping.  I figured that while I was here I could share the DSL connection over a secured wireless network until I leave at the end of July.

Well, it got here today, and low and behold, it does not work as promised.  Firstly, it did not come with the installation CD. The seller did provide a link to the page where you could download a manual and drivers.  Well, there were no drivers or any setup utility there to download.  I was forced to configure this thing manually.

So, I follow the instructions and configure this through my web browser after setting up everything.  The configuration page tries to load, but it times out after attempting to load part of the page.  A time out on a router that is directly connected to the PC?  This has to be a joke right?  Well, I tried two other cables and another computer and the same thing happened.

Needless to say, I was not too happy about this.  Without the ability to configure the router, not only could my computer not get internet access, but also my Mom’s computer that had internet access to begin with also did not get internet access either.  Even after calling our ISP and getting things straightened out with our connection to allow ethernet bridging to allow sharing of the internet connection, the router still did not route like it was supposed to.

Maybe I am overlooking something here.  I really hope I am, beacuse I probably won’t get that money I spent on this back, and I will have to spend more if I want to get internet access on my computer.
