Gonna install Linux on my laptop
Published March 28th, 2006 in Personal, TechnologyMy laptop has served me well since I have had it. Although it is a hand-me-down from eBay with a Intel Celeron running at 600 MHz and 128 MB of RAM, it has ran Windows XP Professional fairly well. However, I have always wanted to try Linux without it interfering with Windows, so I figured this would be the opportunity.
I downloaded Fedora Core 5 (that’s five CD’s) and installed it on my laptop. Unfortunately for me, I did not realize that setup does not set up your system to use a GUI unless you have 192 MB of RAM. Being that I really don’t want a big command-line OS only, I looked around for another distribution, and I chose Ubuntu. Ubuntu is easy to use and set up, and it does not require more memory than what I have for a GUI, to my knowledge anyway. I am downloading the one ISO as I type this.
