The US Department of Homeland Security will experiment with a creative way to affect hurricanes by dropping a GBU-43/B, better known as the mother of all bombs or massive ordinance air burst (MOAB) into a hurricane’s eyewall. The fuel air bomb’s explosion is hoped to disrupt development within the eyewall, thus dissipating the strength of the storm.

The program will begin this summer.
